Tim Bellis to teach module on law firm organisation and governance

Tim Bellis will teach a module on law firm organization and governance as part of the Masters in Corporate Law programme in 2015-16. The module, available exclusively to MCL students, will be the only course offering of its type in a UK law department.

Tim Bellis practiced at Herbert Smith (now Herbert Smith Freehills) before moving to Cambridge University’s Judge Business School (JBS) in 2005. Tim is a currently a Fellow in Management Practice at JBS, where he leads the Professional Service Firm group which runs open and tailored leadership and management development programmes for partners from professional services firms. While at Herbert Smith, Tim developed a wide-ranging corporate practice and was managing partner of the firm’s Asia practice for a number of years.

The law firm governance and organization module will provide MCL students with a theoretically grounded understanding of the structure and operation of law firms. The module will explore the nature of the services law firms offer, legal practice strategies and law firm management structures. Additional topics will include partner compensation and performance appraisal systems, law firm economics, outsourcing and technology and knowledge management.
