What were you doing before the MCL?

I completed my LLB Law & Economics (summa cum laude) at Bilkent University, Türkiye in 2018, followed by the Magister Juris (Hons) at University Oxford in 2019. After that I returned to Istanbul to qualify as a lawyer in my home jurisdiction and worked in top-tier law firms and as an in-house lawyer.

What were your impressions of the MCL?

MCL was the perfect combination of providing legal practicalities and theoretical perspectives at the same time. The Deals course, which has been the cornerstone of the MCL programme, was taught by a mix of distinguished professors and practitioners from reputed English and international law firms. During the course, we engaged in high-level legal and economic analysis of real-life corporate transactions. I also very much enjoyed with other courses, including Corporate Finance (an LLM course), International Merger Control, Shareholder Litigation, Law Firm as a Business and Shareholder Activism. These were intellectually stimulating and provided a strong base for a career in commercially oriented legal environment. All in all, MCL is a truly unique and rewarding opportunity both professionally and personally. I was also lucky enough to be surrounded by talented and diverse group of individuals which made the academic experience more enjoyable.

What are your post-MCL plans and have they changed due to taking the MCL?

After the MCL, I intend to qualify as a Solicitor in England and Wales and remain in private practice in Istanbul with a focus on international commercial disputes and corporate transactions.
