What were you doing before the MCL?

I began my legal career as a solicitor in Thailand at Thanathip and Partners specialising in corporate, M&A and capital markets transactions. Later I joined Clifford Chance’s Bangkok Office, where I worked on cross-border project finance, acquisition finance, asset finance, debt capital markets and infrastructure funds for five years. Just before starting the MCL I moved to Chandler MHM, the Bangkok branch of Mori Hamada & Matsumoto, where I continued to work on banking and finance.

What were your impressions of the MCL?

The MCL is the perfect course for transactional lawyers who wish to enhance their transactional skills while also strengthening their theoretical awareness. In the Deals course we were taught important aspects of contract law and economic theory. We were also given the opportunity to analyse different types of commercial transaction from a legal, practical and economic perspective. The Law Firm as a Business module made us aware of the various business models and strategies deployed by major law firm, together with the main threats posed to their business. The various networking events enabled us to connect with MCL alumni and other leading practitioners, which is highly beneficial for future professional purposes.

What are your post-MCL plans and have they changed due to taking the MCL?

I plan to return to Chandler MHM, where I worked before coming to Cambridge. Undertaking the MCL has significantly enhanced my future career opportunities by giving me a better understand of how law firms operate as businesses, while also developing my practical and theoretical knowledge. This will equip me well for undertaking more senior roles in future.
