What were you doing before the MCL?

I had finished my undergraduate degree in law and I was studying the English Bar course in London.

What were your impressions of the MCL?

My impressions of the MCL were that the course sought to blend together an academic and practical approach to corporate law. I was slightly apprehensive that the course would not provide the balance between academic and practical law that I was looking for, as I was somebody who was interested in corporate law academically and not just practically. Fortunately, the MCL turned out to provide the perfect balance which, in my view, is the course’s key strength.

I was also worried that the other students on the course would have vastly more practical experience than me as I had never practised law before. I was worried that my inexperience may hamper my performance. However, in my cohort there were students with vastly differing levels of experience and not having any practical experience did not hold me back.

What are your post-MCL plans and have they changed due to taking the MCL?

I am currently writing a thesis on corporate and commercial contract law at Oxford University, where I also teach Company Law. In October 2023, I will begin pupillage at the pre-eminent corporate law barristers’ chambers in England.
