What were you doing before the MCL?

Prior to the MCL, I practiced law in Mexico City, working in the corporate legal department of an international accounting firm for four years. In 2014 I founded and became partner in the corporate transactional department of a local firm.

What were your impressions of the MCL?

Pursuing the MCL has strengthened my understanding of deals outside my own jurisdiction and has expanded my knowledge of the common law system. This has been particularly fascinating given my civil law background. The MCL course has encouraged me to think more critically in identifying and addressing potential risks in different kinds of contracts to best serve my clients’ interests. The MCL has also given me the opportunity to consider more closely the current trends in law regarding the digital economy, such as digital assets, DLT and DeFi, as well as how COVID-19 has impacted deal negotiation and transaction structuring.

The MCL fosters an incredible sense of community. The diversity of the MCL cohort has meant that I have met people from all around the world. The meaningful relationships which I have created with my fellow students through this course has allowed me to engage with new perspectives and develop lasting connections which I hope to maintain long after the end of this degree.

What are your post-MCL plans and have they changed due to taking the MCL?

With the knowledge gained through the MCL course, I plan to return to Mexico City where I will continue practicing corporate law and work to develop the international corporate practice in my firm through new strategic alliances. The MCL has given me the tools to better advise clients in different lines of business’ and grow my own practice. I look forward to applying this knowledge and seeking out new opportunities which have opened up to me as a result of this degree!
