What were you doing before the MCL?
After completing a law degree in the Democritus University of Thrace, I joined PotamitisVekris law firm as a trainee lawyer. Being part of a leading Greek law firm, I was exposed to various aspects of corporate, insolvency and financial law, ranging from corporate governance matters, insolvency and restructuring, banking and capital markets to project finance and competition law. This experience fostered my interest in practising corporate and banking law.
What were your impressions of the MCL?
The MCL corresponds to the expectations of students with more specialist interests, as it offers the opportunity to study different aspects of corporate and financial law and regulation in depth. By providing a range of modules the course structure can be tailored to the individual interests and career aspirations of its participants.
It is an innovative teaching programme that provides practical applications and the opportunity to work closely with eminent commercial lawyers from elite UK law firms. The interaction with professionals on a consistent basis is highly enlightening and gives us very good awareness of the dynamic UK legal market.
Another advantage of the programme is the small size of the class that allows greater interplay between colleagues and professors. This in turn encourages participation, discussion and critical thinking on topical and challenging legal issues. The diverse backgrounds of MCL students is an additional valuable aspect of the programme, as it enables the international exchange of ideas and experiences.
What are your post-MCL plans and have they changed due to taking the MCL?
I genuinely believe that the MCL degree is a decisive step towards achieving my professional aspirations. I will now be joining the European Investment Bank (EIB), in Luxembourg, with the aim of developing my expertise in banking and financial regulation further.
