What were you doing before the MCL?

After graduating as a Lawyer in Ecuador and having already a few years of experience in Corporate Law, I co-founded LexArtis Estudio Jurídico, a small Law firm specialized in providing legal advice to foreign companies who were seeking to start business in my country. In 2016, I completed my first master’s degree in administrative law, so I could have an insight of the public law rules governing corporate transactions. After 4 years managing the firm, the increasing amount of deals with European companies compelled me to obtain a stronger understanding of the Common Law System as well as the dynamics of corporate relations in the UK.

What were your impressions of the MCL?

The MCL is an outstanding experience that has enriched me in three ways: From the academic perspective, it meant obtaining the necessary knowledge about very specific areas such as shareholder’s litigation, merger control and US corporate law, that undoubtedly broadened the viewpoint I had on Common Law and European law and will be useful in future deals that I could be in charge. From a practical perspective, the Deals Course and Law Firm as a Business have given me several practical tools and skills that every corporate lawyer should master in their work, this will allow me to better deal with my clients and my team. Finally, the greatest benefit was in the personal scope; having the chance of sharing with a group of amazing people from so many parts of the world, which, in addition to their impressive intelligence and academic dedication, taught me life lessons that I will cherish forever.

What are your post-MCL plans and have they changed due to taking the MCL?

The experience has provided me with a skillset and capability that will help me to potentiate the structure, relations and practice of my law firm back in Ecuador. The next step will be to strengthen the professional network built during the course, and to find strategical partners in an international context in compliance with all the strategies learned with the MCL.
